Wiping, uninstalling and deleting the account
The ledger is yours: a file on your computer, which you keep, export, move or delete when you want. The app never deletes it for you. Below is what each step removes and what stays.
Sign out and remove this computer’s data
From About, “Sign out and remove this computer’s data” signs you out of the account and removes the app’s settings, the security log, the caches and the keys the app keeps on this computer — the ledgers’ keys and the evidence key in the system’s keyring.
The ledgers stay where they are. Without its recovery key, a ledger can no longer be opened on this computer; with it, it opens again. The restore tests’ scratch space is wiped after every test, not at this step.
Uninstalling the app
Uninstalling removes the program and does not delete the ledgers. To leave nothing behind, in this order:
- Export what you want to keep — the reports, the data in open formats, an evidence pack — and keep the recovery key of each ledger you keep.
- Run “Sign out and remove this computer’s data” from About.
- Uninstall the app the system’s way — on Windows from Settings → Apps, on Linux through the deb package or by deleting the AppImage file — and delete the ledgers you no longer want.
Deleting the Palomar account and the synced copy
A ledger’s synced copy is deleted from your workspace on the Palomar web platform, together with its members, invitations and support access; the file on your computer stays untouched, and sync stops there. The account is deleted from the account page, after the two-step verification: every session and installation is signed out, the workspaces you own are deleted and the licence ends. The email address can open an account again, with no link to the old one.
The platform’s backups hold the deleted data for seven more days, then expire; the page shows you the date. What remains, with no address and no content, are the log entries of the account and of the workspaces — what happened and when — for their retention period.
